Publishing the Body gathers eight practices (and an audience) that each by way of their distinct knowledge, material concern and deliberate approach unfold and hold the body in varying states of being. Taking place across dance, lecture, sculpture, conversation and song, each contribution proposes an awareness or comprehension to the room, that as a cumulative form, proposes a possible cartography for reading contemporary body rendition and sharing. 

Publishing the Body is therefore a research event, an opportunity for knowledge, matter and bodies to mingle, and through such conjunction and proximity, provoke new relations between knowledge, matter and bodies.


Publishing the Body is organised by An Athlete in Bed, a poetry press edited by Jesper List Thomsen.

A reading and introduction to Line-Gry’s work on poets H.D. and Robert Duncan. Topics of second sight and second body will be discussed as a basis for reading and writing.

A performance about a park, an invisible box, and a grandmother. Whistling, clapping, turning. A body in motion.

A conversation that explores Aske’s body standing in for Cally’s body and what consequently happens when a mind and a body merge.

Water as Elegy
How has the element of water irrigated the literary imagination, inspiring texts that capture fluidity, both in form and content? This talk will meditate on the dark side of water—water as elegy, as the element that has the power to dissolve our lives and the form of the individuated body.

A listening session of texts, poems and songs from I Have Left You the Mountain, commissioned on the occasion of the Albanian Pavilion at the 15th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia.

A conversation that starts in Georgia’s book Stage of Recovery, to explore what it means to act collectively and why one might have to leave to become an-other.

Jackie Wang

is a poet, scholar, multimedia artist, and Assistant Professor of Literary Arts at Brown University. She is the author of Carceral Capitalism (Semiotext(e), 2018), The Sunflower Cast a Spell to Save Us from the Void (Nightboat Books, 2021; National Book Award Finalist) and Alien Daughters Walk Into the Sun (Semiotext(e), 2023).

Marie Lund

is a Danish artist. Her artistic practice arrives from a contemplation on the interdependencies between architecture, space, objects, and bodies.

Georgia Sagri

is a Greek artist who engages performance as a critical field where the boundaries between art and life, subjectivity and politics, are continuously tested. Her work examines autonomy, invisible labour, affective endurance, and the body's capacity for transformation and recovery.

Line-Gry Hørup

is a Danish graphic designer, editor, professor and writer. Her work begins from an interest in image making and semantic translation, in particular within the relationship between graphic design and poetry.

Aske Thiberg

is a Swedish-Danish artist. His work consist of performance, video, text and music. Emerging from a background in 3D animation and dance, he is driven by an interest in the social disconnect between people in our everyday life.

Cally Spooner

is a British-Italian artist and a writer, whose choreographies, rooted in her training in philosophy, unfold across media—through sound, on film, in text, as objects, and illustrated in drawings.

Åbäke

is a transdisciplinary collective. Their practice of design is always collaborative-creating together, cooperative-sharing resources and collective-acting as one.

Jesper List Thomsen

is a Danish artist and writer. His practice begins in language, which traverses the body and ends in painting, to consider how subjectivity and the human body are shaped by digital and patriarchal conditioning.
